I am 58, I really hate this aging hair. I am doing my best with it because I will always have long hair, and I don’t wash it as often as I used to and it still feels dry and just weird. For me it really began looking and feeling different at age 54. 😩 Ugh.

Has anyone tried an overnight Hydrating Treatment? It is to be applied to lengths and ends and left in overnight with no need to rinse in the morning. Sounds like it might help with dry, brittle, over 40 hair. I know there are a number of companies who offer such products - Kerastase is one. Has anyone tried such a product and if so, does it make a difference?

My two-year-old niece put her hands through my hair and said, you took like uncle Manny... I freaked out because I knew what she meant. I looked at my hairline and noticed I was getting a receding hairline. I researched my options. I landed on the keranique hair system. I started using it, and my hair was falling out more at first...BUT I knew this would happen because I read this in my research. Eventually, that stopped and my hair was growing. Within 3 months I noticed my hair growing and where hair had fallen out, it started growing in. Within 2 years my head of hair has grown fuller, but I have stopped buying keranique and just started using minoxidil...because that is their main product that makes your hair grow. I look for the cheapest I can find. I usually pay about $28 for 3 months supply. I still use their shampoo and conditioner because I like them. I also use argan oil dry spray to give it a shine. It's been 7 years since my niece gave me my wake-up call about my hair, I'm 65 years old and am very happy with my hair. ps, I am not associated with anyone here nor any products I mentioned. Just want to tell you my experience. Always research and see if the products are a good fit for you. See your dermatologist for more information.

Since my late 40's, my hair has become increasingly thicker and coarser, and it was thick and coarse to begin with. It used to be very straight but now has a slight wave. I've been told that I should be grateful to have thick hair, but I'm challenged to style it. Help!

Great video. I love that you are talking how our hair changes. I had fine, straight hair most of my life and now it's wavy and frizzy! Could you do a video on caring for gray hair? I thought allowing my hair to go natural would make it more low maintenance but boy was I wrong! I have no regrets but it's definitely not what I expected. Especially the texture change. That is the most challenging for me.

*Love this casual "chat" format* . I wish I had been better armed with knowledge like this prior to entering menopause at 50. My hair changes were a major self-esteem punch. It took me about two years to get things right. I had the hormonal issues causing thinning, I had years of hard water causing dullness, over washing causing dryness, and coloring/heat styling damage. I stopped coloring, worked my way into 2 washes/week, got a shower filter, used hard water clarifying s/c combos at least once a month, tried minoxidil but didn't like it and went with rosemary/peppermint/green tea tonic. My hair improved and also became wavy, so I embraced it. Healthy salt and pepper hair is just fine with me. I do use bond builders and a protein treatment about every six weeks at this point. I always had fine strands, but they are baby fine these days.

not at all. Watch the video and you'll see I explain WHY it changes, HOW it changes and WHAT to do about it to address those changes. That's also why the title says "IF you don't do this". With that said, I hate the negative style titles as well, unfortunately that's what performs so I have to use them. When I get too positive with them, people don't click on the video, UA-cam doesn't promote it and no one sees them...so I can't help anyone.

Beautiful message, Justin. I can’t say when it happened, but women of a “certain age” slowly and gradually feel invisible. Loss of reproductive abilities, platinum hair, life lines, crepey underarm skin, etc. And you know what? NONE of this matters. None of this is important. Internally we remain who we are, who we were meant to be, with all of the attributes and foibles we blazed into being with. This IS the most important video you’ve made, Justin. Thank you.. ❤️

A good haircut is a must for fine hair. I have always loved my hair as fine hair tends to shine. I can't use a lot of product because I am allergic to most of them. I do put a light conditioner on my hair away from the scalp and I let it air dry until it is just damp. I sleep with it in a high ponytail and that gives it lift. My hair is a little shorter than this woman's but is cut in on sections in the very front. This has worked well for me.

Thank you for making this! It's so interesting and validating. I hadn't noticed the diameter of each hair had gotten smaller, but they have! I'm a wavy/curly with about 30% gray and I do let it air dry, but I'm lucky in that I'm self employed and work from home, so I have the ability to just work and not touch it for 4+ hours. 😄

Even though I am 67 I have to wash my hair every other day. To be honest I could wash it every day. Once I went to my dermatologist and she saw suberic dermatitis spots on my scalp. She asked how often I wash my hair. As someone who washed my hair every day, I started trying to cut back to every 3 days. She emphatically expressed to me that if you have an oily scalp you have to wash your hair every day. The dermatitis build up can cause follicles to die. I concentrate on my scalp when I shampoo. I use minoxidil the night before in the temple area. It really has helped. I am convinced that HRT has kept hair on my head!😁

I moved to So. CA from No. CA (slightly more humidity in No.) at the same time I was starting to go into menopause. My medium curly hair straightened a lot and I’ve had to learn different hair. I thought it was the weather but I heard from an influencer that menopause can straighten your hair. My older sister who hasn’t moved, went from straight hair to curlier. Do you have any feedback on this?

Hi Justin! I'm a dark natural blonde who quit lightening her hair during the pandemic. Blonde hair is SO DELICATE and I now baby my hair. It's thinner in diameter and I have lost some through menopause and started Minoxidil about 6 months ago. I also use New Wash and combine that with a purple shampoo to get the oil out for about half my shampoos. Dr Mary Claire put in words everything I've been going through in my 40's and early 50's. I'll be 55 in about 2 weeks and I'm starting to feel great again. Also, your addressing the topic of the menopausal woman and how this affects everything about her hair, and consequently, her entire outlook is SO APPRECIATED. Product lines like Boom Beauty and Jones Road are finally focusing on the older woman. We are NOT aging like our mothers, thank goodness. 60 is the new 40, or something like that!

You mention to eat healthier, but you don’t specify what that means. Hair is made from protein, so you need high quality protein in the diet, which means animal protein. Plant proteins are by and large incomplete and not very bio available. When I increased my protein intake it made a huge difference in the thickness of my hair.

@@justinhickoxyeah I agree. Love it if you did some lifestyle stuff together like on marriage etc…. Or even if Dionna had a you tube channel on lifestyle, that would be awesome.

🤯 great to know I'm not losing my mind. My hair feels finer and is getting frizzy which I was told means it could be wavy. Can you recommend a clean hair product for wavy hair? Love the conversation style.

Love this Justin ❤ I have the same hairstyle but with bangs I also have the same face shape. I normally styled my hair #3 which becomes quite boring and end up tieing my hair back. Now I have some more options. I'm going to have such fun trying these out. Oh I'm 58.

I did have hair loss in my forties, but after 50 it just all grew back, only a bit more gray. I did start eating healthier and exercising more, so that is probably a big factor.

Definitely a big factor. Movement and nutrition as we age is so important!

Have you got a video of curly/wavy hair for gals over 60?? I'm 62 this year and have naturally curly hair. I've always done a heavy layered look because when it curls the waves are more in conrol

I have one major question about dry shampoo that I'm hoping you can answer - Why is it better to apply all of those chemicals found in dry shampoo to hair and scalp than it is to simply rinse with water and/or shampoo as normal? Do we really know how the chemicals in dry shampoos impact our bodies?

Basic dry shampoo actually has a pretty simple formulation. Something like this (this is the one I use): BUTANE, PROPANE, ALCOHOL DENAT, ORYZA SATIVA STARCH, CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, PANTHENOL. Nothing offensive in there. Of course, others may have added fragrance and other stuff. But if you're worried about irritation, just check and compare the labels and choose accordingly. You could even try using just the starch. Although applying it without the convenience of a pressurized bottle is somewhat cumbersome.

Great info. Awful background music. It’s distracting.

Why do some UA-camrs put music on in the background then have to talk over it. I stop watching when they do that, why can we not simply listen to the people talking together or to the screen? I'm sick of music everywhere I go

Yes, no background music, please. It's exhausting to try and make out what is being said. Especially when watching after a long day of work.

Just wait until the over 50 years!! 😂😂 I've gone lighter in color (hate seeing gray) & it makes a YUGE difference, hardly any shine! Thank you ( both!) for putting great, needed info out there!🎉 p.s. would love more wavy curly vids!
